      IKA launches eco-friendly cooled incubator

IKA expands its temperature chamber portfolio with the new INC 125 FC digital cooled incubator, designed for environmentally conscious and efficient lab work. Complementing the INC 125 F digital and INC 125 FS digital incubator shaker, the INC 125 FC offers precise temperature control from -5 to 100 °C and the largest volume in its class at 125 liters—ideal for microbiological testing, stability studies, and cell cultivation. Eco-friendly and energy-efficient, the INC 125 FC uses natural refrigerant R290 and a microchannel condenser for effective heat extraction. Its demand-controlled electronic expansion valve ensures high cooling capacity and fast cooling rates while minimizing energy consumption. Excellent insulation, a 10-level recirculation mode, and an integrated defrost function further enhance efficiency and reduce operating costs. Designed for hygiene and durability, the inner chamber is made of corrosion-resistant AISI 304 stainless steel with rounded corners and smooth surfaces for easy cleaning. A decontamination mode helps prevent cross-contamination. Space-saving and stackable, up to two INC units can be stacked with the right accessories, making it ideal for compact lab environments. Thornden School STEM club

Alpha staff visited Thornden School KS4 STEM Club in July 2025, to deliver a session to support the upcoming diabetes curriculum in the Autumn term. Staff delivered a brief presentation with background information on the different types of diabetes, risk factors and indicators supporting diagnosis. This session included a urinalysis practical using urine dipsticks to identify factors indicative of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Students were given 3 patient profiles and samples to test and decide on likelihood for diabetes diagnosis. Using their critical thinking, students determined which patients were at risk of diabetes. The session ended with a demonstration of our UTS™ Digital Urine Analyser, an example of how science evolves with technology and how STEM subjects are involved in all steps from innovation and development to end users in clinics.

Alarm notifications can be scheduled for specific days and times, which is particularly helpful when equipment is turned off during nights and weekends. An integral feature of the system is InfoPoint – Contronics’ interactive dashboard. With its colour-coded visual display, any excursions are immediately visible and audible. The team can view graphs, assess issues, and clear alarms quickly and efficiently.

    9. Turn Your Tips into Twice as Many Trees

Turn Your Tips into Twice as Many Trees

Celebrating over 10 years of LaboraTree! It was way back in 2009 that the first seed of the Alpha Laboratories' tree planting scheme, LaboraTree, was sown. Thanks to the dedicated LaboraTree members in laboratories throughout the UK, over 3000 trees have now been planted across the country and are helping make a difference to our environment. The trees planted by our members have helped to consume CO2, clean up pollution, generate oxygen and provide vital habitats for wildlife. To celebrate 10 years of LaboraTree in 2019, we extended the scheme to include ZAP™ Premier filter tips in addition to Fastrak® tip refills. So now it is easier to collect more tokens towards trees. ZAP Filter Tips are Fastrak’s sister product. And, just like Fastrak they are made with sunshine too! In fact over 30% of the energy needed to make ZAP tips comes directly from solar panels. FastZAP™ is Alpha’s newest addition to the scheme, offering the ZAP Premier filter tips in the Fastrak re-racking system. Using both Fastrak® or FastZAP™and ZAP together is the perfect eco-friendly combination. You reduce the amount of waste in your laboratory too. Plus, you can now do even more to help preserve the environment for future generations by planting more trees through the LaboraTree campaign. There's never been a better time to join the LaboraTree scheme! You can find out how the scheme works and view the tree planting progress on the Alpha Laboratories website at www.alphalabs.co.uk/laboratree Please visit www.alphalabs.co.uk for further information or contact Alpha Laboratories on 0800 38 77 32 or email marketing@alphalabs.co.uk
