About us

Specialist laboratory relocations, equipment moves and sample transport, protecting your research every step of the way.

Protecting your research. Keeping your laboratory moving.

Moving a laboratory means protecting the research, samples and equipment that make your work possible. Harrow Green Laboratory Services brings together specialist laboratory teams, detailed project management and temperature-controlled transport and storage to help you manage change with confidence.

Whether you are relocating a single instrument, consolidating research teams, opening a new facility or decommissioning an entire laboratory, we plan and deliver the support around your operational needs.

We work with universities, research institutes, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organisations and science parks. Our approach recognises that every laboratory is different, with its own equipment, working practices, hazards and priorities.

Laboratory relocation, planned around your science

A successful laboratory move starts well before anything is packed. We work with your scientists, laboratory managers, facilities teams and other stakeholders to understand what needs to move, how it must be handled and when it needs to be operational.

Our project managers coordinate the programme, bringing together move schedules, access requirements, specialist handling, equipment manufacturers and destination readiness. Where work needs to continue throughout the transition, we develop phased programmes around your agreed priorities.

From internal laboratory changes to complex, multi-site relocations, we help you maintain control at every stage.

Scientific equipment relocation

Laboratory equipment demands careful planning and appropriate handling. We support the movement of scientific instruments, laboratory furniture and specialist equipment, assessing requirements such as weight, dimensions, access routes and positioning.

Where equipment requires decommissioning, recommissioning or calibration by an original equipment manufacturer or specialist engineer, we coordinate these activities within the wider relocation programme.

Our aim is to make the journey from your existing laboratory to your new working environment as organised and efficient as possible.

Temperature-controlled sample transport

Your samples may represent years of research. Their movement needs to reflect their value, sensitivity and storage requirements.

We plan temperature-controlled transport for chilled, frozen, ultra-low-temperature and cryogenic materials, with handling arrangements tailored to the agreed requirements of each project.

Our teams work with you to establish sample inventories, transfer sequences, collection and delivery arrangements, and contingency requirements. This helps connect your transport plan with the facilities and people receiving the material.

Specialist laboratory and sample storage

Relocation programmes do not always align neatly with building completion dates, equipment installation or changing research requirements. We provide storage options to help bridge those gaps and support longer-term needs.

Our Cambridge biobank offers ambient, chilled, frozen, ultra-low-temperature and cryogenic storage, including −80°C and −150°C options. An HTA research licence supports relevant storage activities at our Cambridge facility.

Whether you need temporary storage during a move, additional capacity or support with disaster recovery planning, we can discuss a solution around your materials and operational requirements.

Hazardous materials and dangerous goods

Moving chemicals and other regulated materials requires specialist planning. Our laboratory relocation capability includes ADR-trained crews and Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser oversight to help establish appropriate transport arrangements.

We work with your team to understand the materials involved and incorporate their requirements into the move programme, including classification, packaging and documentation where applicable.

By considering these requirements early, we help you identify dependencies and prepare for a coordinated relocation.

Laboratory decommissioning and consolidation

Closing, consolidating or reconfiguring a laboratory can create a complex mix of assets, materials and deadlines.

We help you plan what needs to move, remain in storage, be redistributed or enter an appropriate clearance route. Asset audits and inventories support decisions about equipment and furniture, helping you identify opportunities for reuse before purchasing replacements.

Our teams can coordinate relocation, storage and clearance activities within one programme, giving your stakeholders a clearer view of responsibilities and next steps.

Asset visibility throughout your project

Knowing where your assets are is essential when managing a laboratory move. Our QR asset tracking supports identification and visibility across the relocation programme.

By linking physical assets to an organised inventory, we help teams plan destinations, coordinate handling and manage placement. This is particularly useful where multiple departments, buildings or research groups are moving within the same programme.

Who we support

Our services are designed for organisations where scientific activity, valuable assets and operational continuity need careful consideration:

• Universities and academic research departments moving teaching and research facilities.
• Biotechnology and pharmaceutical businesses expanding, consolidating or changing premises.
• Research institutes relocating specialist equipment and temperature-sensitive collections.
• Healthcare and life sciences organisations managing laboratory and estate changes.
• Science parks and innovation campuses supporting tenant moves and facility transitions.
• Laboratory managers, estates teams, facilities professionals and procurement teams seeking a specialist relocation partner.
