ASTELL SCIENTIFIC LIMITED
About us
Astell autoclaves are highly customisable, and each model is different, but their industry leading control-system is always the same.
Astell Scientific have been experts in sterilisation since 1884. Over the last 140 years they have advanced the field of steam sterilisation, introducing technology such as electrical heating (1908), front loading systems (1924), swiftlocking closures (1989), microprocessors (1984), ecofill (2000), and the digital touch-screen control system (2009).
Time-tested experience and continuous development have resulted in a diverse range of customisable autoclaves. Whether top-loading or front-loading, cuboid or cylindrical chambered, Astell refine each autoclave to exactly meet customer requirements by building every unit to order. Using the latest lean manufacturing procedures, Astell creates cost-efficient autoclaves equipped with exactly the right hardware configuration for the end user – no more or less.
Such flexibility in construction has seen Astell autoclaves installed across the globe for myriad purposes; rarely are two units identical due to varying user needs. However, one element remains consistent throughout: the Astell touch-screen control computer system. With a base model capable of storing fifty cycle programs, archiving data from five-thousand past cycles, and transferring data via USB, the simple-to-use system provides an equal array of advanced features to all Astell autoclaves.
The control system is also equipped with a 5.7-inch display that provides instantaneous data feedback to the operator, while a pressure sensitive resistive touch-screen allows for input by any ridged object, including styluses, and bare or gloved fingertips. Tested for resistance to over 60 laboratory and household chemicals, the rugged display showed no signs of damage after a 24-hour exposure period.
Harmful chemicals are not the only thing the device can resist; multilevel password protection provides different degrees of tamper-proofing to the system’s settings, with specified permissions granted to distinct user groups. The FDA Title 21 CFR Part 11 compatibility option takes autoclave security further by providing user-specific activity reports: logging all modifications to settings and cycles.
Yet to approved users, changing attributes on the controller is a simple task. From changing language settings to designing new sterilisation cycles, the touch-screen system allows modification and adjustments to autoclave functions and processes based on operator requests. This fits well with the Astell philosophy; providing system customisation to closely meet user requirements. So, while the touch-screen control hardware remains consistent between all the Astell autoclaves, it is possible that with user-modified settings and cycles, no two control systems are identical either.

Astell Autoclaves
A selection from the wide range of Astell autoclaves

AMB Benchtop Range
The 33 to 63 litre front loading 'Benchtop' autoclaves are available in two versions. Both require no plumbing, and operate from a standard single phase power supply. ‘Classic’ and ‘Ecofill’ models are available. Astell benchtop 'Ecofill' units are one of the most energy efficient autoclaves available. The pressure vessel design ensures the absolute minimum amount of water is used during a sterilization cycle, which not only means comparably low power consumption, but also very quick heating and cooling. A benchtop autoclave has a variety of uses, being suitable for sterilizing laboratory glassware, plastic receptacles and containers, petri dishes, un-wrapped instruments, media, and occasional discard loads. In addition to laboratory use, it is not uncommon for benchtop autoclaves to be employed in other areas. In fact Astell regularly supplies its compact sterilizers for use in scientific research, process manufacturing, veterinary and medical healthcare industries to name but a few.

AMA Compact Top Loading Autoclave Range
The 63 litre 'Compact' top loading autoclaves are floor standing self-contained sterilizer units that require no plumbing and operate from a standard single phase power supply. All compact autoclaves are fitted with castors for easy movement. Available in two versions; they are idea for a medical application, for sterilizing tall items, or in any situation where space is at a premium. ‘Classic’ and ‘Ecofill’ models are available.

AMBDV Duaclave Range
The 33 - 63 litre ‘Duaclave’ is the ideal autoclave range where laboratory space is at a premium. The Duaclave features two identical chambers, one directly above the other ranging in sets of 33ltr, 43ltr and 63ltr. Combining two units within one frame, the two chambers operate completely independently.

AMA Top Loading Autoclave Range
The 95 - 135 litre toploading autoclave range offers increased chamber sizes compared to the 'Compact' units, as well as featuring advanced options not available on smaller sized autoclaves, including Heated Jackets, Integral Steam Generators, Simple/Advanced Vacuum and Cooling options. These options enable a top loading sterilizer to be tailored to the needs of the customer by speeding up cooling, dealing with liquids, porous-type loads and allowing a wider range of items to be efficiently processed.

ASB Swiftlock Front Loading Autoclave Range
The 120 - 344 litre front loading autoclave offers five chamber sizes, increased in capacity from the top loading range. The 'Swiftlock' front loading range of autoclaves allows the user a greater choice of options unavailable on the smaller ranges, as well as easy loading access.

MNS-E Square Eco Autoclave Range
The SQUARE ECO Range is the entry level to square-chambered autoclaves offered by Astell. These units can sterilize almost all autoclavable material used in the laboratory – from instruments and glassware, to discard and liquids – although cannot dry fabric like our more advanced machines. Ranging from 125 to 360 litres, the SQUARE ECO provides the usability of a square chamber autoclave at a fraction of the price.

AstellBio Sink and Micro Effluent Decontamination System range
These small-scale thermal batch Effluent Decontamination Systems (EDS) are capable of automatically sterilizing contaminated wastewater before dispatching it to the sewer. With the capability to deactivate biological agents in hazard groups up-to-and-including level 3, the AstellBio Sink and Micro can be used across a range of containment levels. The AstellBio Sink and Micro feature a 25 litre holding tank and a 12 litre kill tank.
