This award puts the spotlight on laboratories who have successfully delivered impactful health, safety and security development. This year the development of relationships and solutions towards a current goal has been more important than ever before.

Zoe Andrews, from Harvey’s Gang, was the winner of this award, for developing Harvey’s Gang tours in Guernsey, despite the global pandemic.

Harvey’s Gang educates, empowers young patients by giving the young patient a tour of their Pathology Laboratory. Zoe managed to develop Harvey’s Gang tours in Guernsey, despite the global pandemic. Zoe is a remarkable young lady and has done so much for her laboratory and Harvey’s Gang and their young patients in the hospital. Her daughter, Harriet, designed Christmas cards that Zoë then got made and sold to raise money for Harvey’s Gang.” – Malcolm Robinson, Founder of Harvey’s Gang

Harvey’s Gang encourages & helps empower and reduce fear for ill children by providing tours of the blood transfusion, Haematology, Blood Sciences, and other laboratories. In honour of Harvey Buster Baldwin and now in 94 laboratories.

In 2013 the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratory at Worthing Hospital, part of Western Sussex NHS Trust, (WSHT) was contacted about showing a little boy around the department. He was curious to see where his blood went when it was tested, why it needed to be done so many times, and how it would help the hospital staff to decide what blood he needed as part of his treatment. This simple request became the start of what has become an international PBM initiative to increase the involvement and knowledge of patients and their families in the laboratory aspects of their transfusion treatment.
